A sitting United States president has not been to Cuba in nearly 90 years and Obama will be making history the same time we will be there!
Obama will be in Cuba as a result of normalizing relations between the U.S. and Cuba because Cuba and the U.S. has been undergoing an economic embargo for 50 years. He will be the first U.S president since Calvin Coolidge.
Breaking News reported this morning that the dates were released and Obama is expected to visit Havana, Cuba March 21-22.
ABC reported that Obama is making a trip to Cuba while completing a multi-stop presidential trip to Latin America.
In an interview with Yahoo News in December, Obama said that he would only go to Cuba if he felt comfortable.
“If I go on a visit, then part of the deal is that I get to talk to everybody,” Obama said. “I’ve made very clear in my conversations directly with President [Raul] Castro that we would continue to reach out to those who want to broaden the scope for, you know, free expression inside of Cuba.”
